A New Tax Year

As we enter a new tax year, all end of year paperwork for the completed year 09-10 is now available to our temporary workers......and if you entered or left the country after April 2009, then you may be entitled to a tax rebate.

How to Claim

Tax rebates must always be claimed from the tax office of the company where you are currently working (or if you are leaving the country, your last employer). The phone number of our tax office at Extraman is 0845 302 1414. Many claims are straightforward as long as you have all P60s (given at the end of the tax year) or/and P45s (given when you leave an employment) for all employments for the tax year your claim relates to. All your employments for each year must be taken into account when making a claim.

In the first instance, a phone call to the tax office requesting simple forms for completion may be the best starting point.  Once the forms are received and completed, you simply send them back to the tax office with the relevant P45s and P60s. The tax office will ask you for a National insurance number which, if you are from abroad, you should have applied for when you started your employment. However, you can still make a claim for rebate even if you don't yet have a National Insurance number.

  • Send completed forms to the tax office -the address will be on the forms when they are sent to you but for temporary workers with Extraman the address is:

HM Inspector of Taxes, Tees Valley, PO Box 292, Middlesbrough  TS1 2XA

Tax Rebate Companies

Claiming overpaid tax back is usually less stressful than you think. However, if you don't feel you wish to claim tax back yourself, there are companies who will do so on your behalf. They usually charge about 18% of your rebate plus VAT (making 20.7%), but they will also often have a minimum charge of around £50 plus VAT (£57.50).
